Appointed to VAT Tribunal
Keith Jones, a director of DFK Chancery Trust in the Isle of Man, has been appointed to the VAT and Duties Tribunal. This follows his appointment last year as a Commissioner for Income Tax.
Appointed by the Council of Ministers under the Tribunals Act 2006, the VAT and Duties Tribunal deals with appeals relating to indirect taxes.
Keith says that it is likely to be a demanding role initially since there is a considerable back-log of appeals.
“The Tribunal will be taking over responsibility locally from the Tribunal centre in Manchester, which previously had responsibility for the Island. Unfortunately, it appears that they have not felt themselves sufficiently resourced to meet their responsibilities and have declined to deal with Island based appeals for a number of years” he commented.
